A Journey Through 1,300 Years of History at Nihon-ji Temple
This tour guides you through Nihon-ji Temple along the same pilgrimage route used since 1780s. Many literary masters such as Natsume Soseki and Masaoka Shiki visited this ancient temple, founded in the 7th century.
Your guide will lead you through the highlights while sharing the dramatic history of Nihon-ji, shaped by the passing of eras. When walking from the Hota side, you may see Mt. Fuji just as it appears in Hiroshige’s famous ukiyo-e print “Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji — The Coast of Boshu Hota.”
Course Itinerary
Starts at 10:00, finishes at 15：00
Strolling through Hota town → Omotesando (Front approach) → Nioh Gate / Kannon Hall → Omotesando Gate → Shinji Pond → Lecture Hall & Buddha Relic Pagoda → Yakushi Main Hall / Daikokuten → Daibutsu Plaza → The 1,500 Arhats → Summit Observatory / Jigoku Nozoki (Peek into Hell) → Hyakushaku Kannon (One Hundred-Foot Kannon Statue) → Tsuuten Cave → (descent) → back to Hota station / Hota Shogakko

By Car: Michi-no-Eki Hota Shogakko (free parking).
Eligibility
Elementary school students and older who can walk for appx. 5 hours without support.
This is a intermediate level of hiking activity. The course includes series of stairways ascending and descending. Children under 12 years old are asked to be accompanied with adults.
Fee
16,000 jpy per person, or 42,100 jpy~ per group (up to 12 persons)
Things to bring / wear
drink for hydration, lunch/snack, hat, sunscreen, bug repellent, walking shoes, clothes for hiking/climbing, rain gear.
Backpack is recommended.
